"I am angling now, though you percieve me not how I give line..."

I've been thinking about "craft" for the past couple of weeks.  (This may have something to do with the fact that I am rereading "The Name of the Wind"--the first book in the yet unfinished trilogy by Patrick Rothfuss.  If you haven't read it, you should.  Although you will join the legions of us who are waiting for him to finish it up). At any rate, I sort of want to dive into process and the craft of acting in this blog.  So this may only be interesting for about a third of you.  I'm not sure how to divide my four loyal readers into three, so if you are afraid you may be immolated by what comes next, you have my permission to eject now and save yourself (or whatever portion of yourself that might be at risk with that math). We have had a first read-- which, as the remainder (math term) of my readers know is my favorite rehearsal-- and a few blocking rehearsals thus far (which is fancy Shakespeare talk for "so far.")  In other words, we are ...

Shakespeare by the Sea is finally back!  And so is the blog.  I know you missed it, my four loyal readers. So this summer we are doing The Winter's Tale and Merry Wives of Windsor .  I am playing Leontes in Winter's Tale, and understudying Dr. Caius in Merry Wives.  After trying to do both shows last year only to end up beaten, broke, and nearly abandoned by my family, I decided that doing only one show was the way to go this summer.  But when I learned that BJ needed to miss a performance this year, I jumped at the chance to knock Merry Wives off my career canon bucket list. (I checked with the family first.  I think we're all good.  Give Annie a couple of glasses of wine and ask her and you may get a different answer...gulp). I missed a lot of the auditions this year, because I was performing "Balcony Scene."  So I wasn't as familiar with the new folks when they came into callbacks.  But, man do we have a great group this year!...
